CONTEXT

Situated between the snow-capped Spanish Peaks and the distinctive plateau of Fisher’s Peak, Trinidad is the cultural, social, and economic capital of Southeastern Colorado. Its forward-thinking civic leaders envision a dynamic approach to the City’s growth, where outdoor recreation coupled with the arts and tourism take center stage.

Colorado’s 42nd state park.

In October 2020, Governor Jared Polis announced that the 19,200 acres of land near Trinidad known as Fishers Peak would become Colorado’s 42nd State Park. This transformative designation will bring the lucrative ($62 billion) outdoor recreational industry to the City’s doorstep.

Listed on the National Register in 1973, the El Corazon de Trinidad Historic District is known for its impressive inventory of significant architectural buildings. More recently, the district was named a Colorado Creative District – where local organizations, government entities and individuals collaborate on creative initiatives that strengthen the community while honoring Trinidad’s history.

Preserved in time are the original bricks of Trinidad stamped with the town’s name. Thousands of them laid in the early 1900s still line the streets today. With 143 original buildings dating as far back as the late 1800s, Trinidad’s rich architectural past stands proudly along the six miles of brick-laid streets.
